9 Great Breakfasts for People using GLP-1 Weight Loss Medications

If you’re taking a GLP-1 weight loss drug like semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy), tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound), or orforglipron (Foundayo), you may find yourself feeling less hungry in the morning. But it’s still a good idea to start the day with a solid breakfast, says Bonnie Newlin, RD, a registered dietitian based in Annapolis, Maryland. "Establishing a regular breakfast routine can regulate your hunger cues and keep your energy levels steady throughout the day," Newlin says. Limiting fats, which "are more difficult for the body’s enzymes to break down," could help reduce the gastrointestinal side effects of GLP-1 medications, Newlin says. And if you’re not hungry, don’t force it: Have a smaller portion, or bump your breakfast back a little later in the morning. "You can always eat more later if you are still hungry," she says. Breakfasts that meet these guidelines don't have to be difficult. The following nine recipes are good ways to start.

Science continues to prove that the old adage "you are what you eat" is profoundly true. This is because you have trillions of microorganisms living in your gut, which are directly responsible for nearly every aspect of your health. These microbes make up what’s called your "gut microbiota." They are especially influential in determining your likelihood of gaining excessive weight, becoming obese, and developing obesity-related diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and premature death. The gut microbiome (the expressed genes of your gut microbiota) plays a major role in your metabolism through energy production, storage, and expenditure. So, it’s no surprise that science has found a strong connection between gut microbiome imbalance and metabolic syndrome. Yikes! If you have the wrong mix of microbes, it could be making it tough for you to get your health on track!
